Plaza subsidized housing and underground parking

Competition 1st Prize - 2002 Guadalajara

An existing site with steep and wooded, making it very attractive urban enclave attached to a library, but now the movement of cars and surface parking detracts from the beauty of the place and not allow the development of public use.

This is the reason you decide pedestrianise the square and main entrances. The proposal meets with a small gesture, dialogue with the palace Dávalos and creating a pleasant place to rest for library users, which in turn is compatible with underground parking. A main route connecting the main street with access to the library by crossing Alvarfáñez Minaya. In addition, it is intertwined with an alternative path consists of a series of platforms, with a sinuous gentle slopes to allow wheelchair access. These platforms are articulated through cracks around the garage light and ventilate naturally. This natural light is screened from a rusted steel lattices that reproduce the woodwork of the palace and at the same time protecting the garage.

Through holes five large trees arise under which stay organized spaces. If possible, trees should recover now existing roots plastering techniques.

In turn, these spaces we study with folds in the form of balconies that are staggered to a possible scenario, which is drawing the cover of the garage ramp. Therefore, the square can become a small outdoor auditorium for public performances, such as marathon cuentos.Frente at the entrance of the palace offers a visual clearway. So, this piece takes on the importance of a good property of historical value.

The furniture are: some benches, which are seen as a fold of the pavement itself and a series swivel chairs made of cast aluminum, which are placed in an anarchic way, with the users, which are grouped or individualized.

The pavement is a Continuous precast concrete sleepers, which is played with different types of finish. On the way to the library is engraved with famous texts that lead us to the entrance, thus highlighting the nature of it. Alternatively, the ties are replaced by small beds of herbs or other types of flooring such as wood.
